Advance Transit (AT), the free public transit service in the Upper Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire, has been named the 2023 Community Business of the Year by Vermont’s Hartford Area Chamber of Commerce (HACC). The nonprofit transit agency received this award on Wednesday,
January 31, 2024, at the HACC’s Annual Meeting and Breakfast.

This prestigious honor serves as a tribute to the transit agency’s unwavering commitment to providing fare-free transportation services and fostering a positive impact on the local community. HACC recognized the organization’s 40 years of service to the community, which includes offering over 20 years of fare-free transit that expands access, increases mobility options, and empowers community members. It also noted AT’s recent service expansion, now providing bus service on evenings and Saturdays, as well as its contributions to economic growth, community engagement, and dedication to sustainability.

AT has played a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life in the Hartford community by providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services. The organization’s focus on access and sustainability is evident in its efforts to expand service options, reduce its carbon footprint, and contribute to a greener, more environmentally conscious community.

“This award is a testament to the collaborative spirit of the Upper Valley,” said Adams Carroll, Executive Director at Advance Transit. “The combined support of the business community, multiple governments, major institutions, foundations, and even individuals is what fuels Advance Transit’s success. The state lines and municipal boundaries that our buses cross are not viewed as borders, but opportunities for strengthening connections and communities. We’re proud of the role that we play in addressing regional transportation issues, and we’re very grateful for this recognition from the Chamber.”

AT joins the ranks of past Community Business of the Year Award honorees, which include VINS and Northern Stage. This accolade highlights the collaborative efforts of businesses and community members working together to create a thriving and sustainable local economy.
