Emily’s Journey with Advance Transit

If you’ve spent any time riding with us around the Upper Valley, you might’ve shared a bus with Emily — a longtime Wilder resident with a bright smile, a full schedule, and a deep appreciation for staying connected to her community.

Emily has never driven a car, but that’s never stopped her from getting exactly where she wants to go. As a retired community member, her days are filled with visits to the Bugbee Senior Center, errands around town, and local events that keep her active and engaged. Thanks to Advance Transit’s fare-free service, she’s able to travel on her own terms — with little need to call for favors or wait for someone else’s availability.

When she first tried AT back in the early 1980s, Emily admits she felt a little intimidated. Figuring out routes and stops was new territory. But it didn’t take long before she settled in. With each ride, she became more comfortable, more confident, and more connected.

“It’s a great way to stay connected,” she says — and it’s clear she means it. Watching her community in motion, greeting familiar faces, and seeing daily life unfold from her seat on the bus has become something she truly enjoys.

What Emily treasures most, though, is the independence. Riding AT gives her the freedom to stay socially involved and avoid the isolation that can sneak up on anyone. She gets to choose how she spends her day — and we’re honored to help get her there.

Emily’s story is a beautiful reminder of what public transit can do: open doors, spark connection, and support independence for riders of all ages. We’re grateful she’s part of our AT family, and even more grateful we get to be part of hers.
