How Fare-Free Transit Helps Our Community Stay Connected

At Advance Transit, we believe that everyone deserves the chance to fully participate in the life of our community. That belief is at the heart of our commitment to fare-free public transit in the Upper Valley. For us, it’s about much more than just getting people from point A to point B — it’s about helping our neighbors stay connected, independent, and involved.

Transportation plays a vital role in daily life, yet for many, the cost of getting around can be a real barrier. Older adults, individuals with disabilities, and residents with limited income often face tough choices — between groceries and a ride to the doctor, or between staying home and visiting a friend. We’re proud to help remove those barriers.

When transportation is free and accessible:

  • Older adults can more easily attend medical appointments, see friends, or simply enjoy getting out into the community. That freedom helps them stay healthy, active, and socially connected.

  • People with disabilities gain reliable access to jobs, education, and social opportunities — all of which help foster greater independence and inclusion.

  • Community members with limited resources no longer have to weigh every trip against their budget. Whether it’s going to a job interview, visiting family, or accessing critical services, fare-free transit offers economic relief and peace of mind.

By removing the cost of transit, we’re helping reduce social isolation — something that impacts mental and physical health in big ways. We hear stories all the time from riders whose lives have changed simply because they now have a safe, dependable, and free way to get where they need to go.

This is what building a stronger, more connected community looks like.

And we couldn’t do it without you. Your support allows us to continue providing this vital service — one that makes it possible for more people in our region to connect, thrive, and belong.

Thank you for being part of the journey.
