Celebrating the People Who Keep the Upper Valley Moving: Transit Employee Appreciation Day

Every day in the Upper Valley, Advance Transit buses help neighbors get where they need to go — to work, school, appointments, grocery stores, and community events. But behind every smooth ride is a dedicated team of people working hard to keep our fare-free transit system running.

On March 18, Transit Employee Appreciation Day, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the incredible individuals who make Advance Transit possible.

The People Behind the Wheel — and Behind the Scenes

When most people think about public transit, they picture the friendly drivers greeting riders as they board. Our drivers truly are the heart of Advance Transit. They navigate busy roads, changing weather, and packed schedules while making sure every rider gets to their destination safely.

But a strong transit system takes a whole team.

Dispatchers carefully coordinate service throughout the day. Maintenance technicians keep buses running safely and reliably. Administrative staff plan routes, support riders, and help ensure our service meets the needs of the community. Together, they form the backbone of a system that connects towns across Vermont and New Hampshire.

A Commitment to Community

What makes transit work in a place like the Upper Valley is the people who care deeply about the communities they serve. Many Advance Transit employees live right here in the region. They see familiar faces on the bus, help students get to school, connect workers with jobs, and make it easier for neighbors to access the services they need.

Providing fare-free transit means removing barriers so more people can ride — and our employees make that mission real every single day through their professionalism, patience, and kindness.

A Simple “Thank You” Goes a Long Way

Transit Employee Appreciation Day is the perfect time to share a little gratitude. If you ride with Advance Transit, consider taking a moment on March 18 to say thank you to your driver or any member of our team you encounter.

A smile, a wave, or a few kind words can mean a lot to someone who spends their day helping others get where they need to go.
